❓ What is the difference between Standard and Maximum mode?

Both modes encrypt your backups with AES-256. The difference is who holds the recovery key:

Maximum Privacy: Only you hold the key (via a 24-word recovery phrase). Even Sanoy cannot recover your backups.

Standard: Sanoy holds a recovery component. We can help you recover your backups if you forget your password.

❓ Which mode should I choose?

Choose Maximum if you want the highest privacy guarantee and will save your recovery phrase safely. Choose Standard if you want privacy with a safety net in case you forget your password.

❓ Does the privacy mode affect AI quality?

No. Both modes use the same AI providers and produce the same quality of responses. The mode only affects how your backups are protected and recovered — not how the AI thinks or responds.

❓ What does “zero-knowledge” mean?

Zero-knowledge means Sanoy does not hold the key to your data. In Maximum Privacy mode, your backups are encrypted with a key derived from your 24-word phrase. The phrase never leaves your device. Even if Sanoy servers were compromised, no one could read your backups. This is guaranteed by mathematics, not by policy.

❓ Can I switch between modes?

Yes — anytime in Settings → Backup Encryption. Your data is preserved through the switch. Switching to Maximum generates a new recovery phrase you must save. Switching to Standard removes the phrase requirement.

❓ If I forget my recovery phrase, can Sanoy help me?

No — and that's the point. In Maximum Privacy mode, your recovery phrase is the only key. We never see it. We never store it. Even we cannot recover your backups without it. If you want a safety net, choose Standard mode instead — Sanoy can help you recover if you forget your password.

❓ What happens to my data if Sanoy shuts down?

Your backups are encrypted and stored on Sanoy servers. If the service ever ends, we will give users at least 90 days notice to download their encrypted backups. Your data is always yours — the decryption key never leaves your device.

❓ Which AI providers power Sanoy?

Sanoy uses multiple AI providers under strict contracts: no training on your data, no resale, no retention. We don't name them publicly for security reasons, but every contract explicitly prohibits the use of your messages for anything other than generating your response.

❓ Can I export my data?

Yes. In Maximum mode, you have the encrypted backup file and the phrase to decrypt it. In Standard mode, Sanoy can export your data on request. Your account, your choice, your data.

❓ Why $30/month?

Because Sanoy doesn't sell your data. Every AI chat you send is processed by external providers — I pay them on your behalf. Sanoy has no investors, no advertisers, no data brokers. Your subscription is how Sanoy exists, stays independent, and stays honest.
